In Before I Forget, I recount my family’s history during the Second World War. About life in the years leading up to it, the unexpected start of the war, my father Lou Jansen and his role in the CPN, the February strike, the three years we spent in hiding, the outcome, and the liberation.
Over the years, I received information from various sources that supplemented my story. This has been added to the relevant chapters as an Afterword.
I have also expanded the text of four chapters. I have indicated these additions with the title ‘Intermezzo’.
Am I finished with this updated version of my story? In principle, yes, but if I am honest, I must admit that the events during the war years still occupy my mind on a regular basis.
